The NDFTA responded to the DBT consultation and provided a position paper that outlined our opposition to applying retaliatory tariffs to dried fruit and nuts imports from the US. The paper highlighted the economic importance of core US commodities such as Almonds, Cranberries, Prunes and Walnuts to the UK market. It also highlighted the industrial consequences of applying retaliatory tariffs that would result in increased costs to consumers and businesses.

Further feedback was provided about the importance of food security in terms of quality and sustainability that dried fruits and nuts from US origins provide. The important contribution dried fruits and nuts play in health and nutrition were highlighted and in applying retaliatory tariffs this would limit consumer choice to these healthy and nutritious foods.
